Fast, focused action, grounded in science
The IUCN RHINO (Rapid High-Integrity Nature-positive Outcomes) approach provides three impact tracks to help organisations understand their interface with nature and guide their interventions to deliver Nature Positive outcomes now. It is not a complete solution to delivery of these outcomes but provides a means for companies to embark on no-regrets actions that are robust and scientifically supported.
Track A
Direct Impact Track
This track is suitable for companies that:
have direct impacts on biodiversity that occur at one-to-many sites, with low spatial uncertainty
have management agency for landholdings
infrastructure and renewable energy developers
primarily agricultural and logging commodity producers
extractive industry
work with stakeholders in landscapes around them
Track B
Value Chain Impact Track
This track is suitable for companies that:
have connections to land holdings through the purchase and processing of commodities, but for which the company does not have direct authority over spatial planning decisions at the point of production:
commodity consolidators
consumer product companies in sectors with significant reliance on commodities with heavy biodiversity footprints
retailers
wholesalers
combine a direct footprint through their productive or extractive activities with the sourcing of materials with inputs (energy for instance)
Track C
Investor Impact Track
This track is suitable for companies that:
generate impacts via their investments:
financial institutions
investors
insurers
have portfolios that contain combinations of companies with direct impacts and value chain impacts
